Cotton Candy Pandas

Last December, a very close friend of mine asked me to make him an amigurumi of a big and small panda.

So I used the TarePanda pattern which I posted last year. And as promised, I fixed the pattern for the tiny version.

The pandas took me less than a month to make, which is a tad longer than I estimated. But in fairness to me, the time frame wasn't all that bad considering I have work and constantly have to fight battles against the monster called "procrastination". That fiend! Hehehe! Well, it may have taken a while but at least the pandas turned out great and my friend couldn't care less how much time it took. He said they were so cute and beyond adorable. Aww! Shucks! -^^-

With that project done, It made me realize one thing... Black and White pandas are boring. -_- I mean don't get me wrong, they're as cute as hell but making the TarePanda thrice and the tiny version twice... Yah, it has its limits. But I still love pandas and I want to have my own amigurumi since I gave mine to my toddler cousin. Kids! They're so hard to resist... -3-

So what do you do if black and white suddenly seems boring? Splash some color of course!

I didn't want my pandas to be too loud so I chose a lighter and more subtle color palette... Cotton Candy! A sweet family of Cotton Candy Pandas. ^^
Kawaii!!! They're so cute I could die!!! OvO
You may notice that I didn't use felt for the eye patches... Well, I thought to make it more unique so I crocheted my own. ^^

  1. First of all, thank you for a wonderful work. I love your patterns.

I wonder if it is possible for me to translate some of your free patterns into Spanish and share with my blog readers? There are many spanish crocheters that can not read English descriptions. Obviously, I will link to you and your pattern and give you credit for the work!

You can see my blog in losenredosdelyanne.blogspot.com.es

    My e-mail: losenredosdelyanne@gmail.com

Please let me know if it is okay or not.
    Thanks in advance!

    1. Oh sure. No problem. I think it's a great idea to translate my patterns in Spanish. The more people to know, the better. ^^

I'm glad that you loved my patterns. It means a lot to me when my work is appreciated. Thanks so much. ^^

    1. The big ones are around 7 inches, while the tiny panda is about 4. Sizes may vary depending on the yarn and hook. ^^

  5. Hey!
Thank you for making the panda pattern : ). This is my first project, so I can't read the pattern that well. When you say "Rnd 1: sc on 2nd ch from hook, 12sc, 3sc1, 12sc, inc (30)" What am I supposed to do?

    Thank you again!

  6. By "chain" do you mean single crochet (sc)? Because if you don't then it's kinda wrong. Sorry. T_T

Okay, so you begin by making 14 chains then on the chain next to the one your hook is looped in (Going to the left if you're right-handed), you make 1sc followed by 12sc. By then you should be where you started your 14 chains. Now in that single chain do 3sc.

This is where it gets a little tricky...

You may have noticed that a chain has two loops... So from "sc on 2nd ch to 12sc" you worked on the top part of the loop. Now you just have to turn it over and work on the other side. It's like working on rounds except it's in an elongated oval shape.

Was that clear? Hope it helped. It's okay if you didn't get it right away. I don't really mind being asked so just buzz if you need anything. ^^

    2. That's a relief. Just ask if it starts to get confusing again. Goodluck with the pandas. ^^

    3. Hi!
Sorry, I just had another question. For the [inc-4sc]x2 does this mean that I do 4 single chains into a stitch, twice? Or does it mean that I do 2 single chains into 4 stitches, twice?

    4. Hi!
I'm having a bit more trouble. I don't quite understand the [inc,4sc]x2 and those like it. Also, from the 3rd round on, I can't seem to make it to the end of this piece. I am finishing the pattern too quickly, any advice?

    5. "[inc-4sc]x2" means that you increase and then do 1sc for each of the next 4 stitches. The "2x" means you have to repeat the process twice.

Are you working on the head? Are you having difficulty after rnd 3 of the head?

You can look into the diagram of the original pattern just to have visual help. It's in Japanese but the symbols are easy enough to understand. In my sidebar there's the "Little Help" section where it redirects you to a website that can help you interpret the symbols. ^^

    6. Oh! I think I get it now >.< I was wondering why I'd finish 5 stitches before the end of the row ^^; I am, I got pretty far before, almost half way through the head, and then I realized I was crocheting wrong XD. I was only going through the first loop instead of both of the loops (if that makes sense). Thank you!! I will :)

    7. That's okay. Trial and error is part of the learning process. Just be patient and you'll be surprised how much easier crocheting will be. ^^

    8. Hi!
It's me again. I finished the head! it looks a bit odd, but thats to be expected, because this is my first piece. I have another question, though. after row 20, you said to FO, but there is still a little gap in the panda's head. I close that, right? Sorry, it's a bad question but I wanted to know if there was a reason for me to leave it open >.<

    9. The shape of the head depends on the amount of stuffing. You should probably put some more fiberfill to give it more shape. ^^

Yes, you have to stitch it closed. That supposed gap is the bottom part of the head or the chin one might say. That's not where you'll attach the body so that should be closed. Thanks for mentioning that. I should add that to the instructions. ^^

  7. How do you put the head on? I can't seem to get it to curve the way yours does.

    1. I pin it in place first just to see how it will look when attached, then I gradually remove the pins while stitching so that I won't lose the placement.

Try adding more fiberfill to give it more shape and "massage" it a little just to fill up all the spaces. ^^
