Pita Pan No Bouken

Whenever my brothers and I talk about our favorite cartoons when we were kids, without fail, my second eldest brother's answer would always be the Japanese anime version of the adventures of Peter Pan, "Pita Pan no Bouken". Well I could very well understand since it really was an awesome cartoon, and I don't know anyone who loved it more than he did.

So gift idea for his birthday? Obviously an amigurumi of Peter Pan and Tinkerbell... Anime style! ^^

Part 1: Making Peter Pan

You'd be surprised where I got the the pattern from for the head and body base... From a Cthulhu! Who knew that someone could make an amigurumi of a mythical, blood-thirsty monster cute enough to be a base for a chibi? Minus the facial tentacles of course. Clearly, Rural Rebellion can. ^^

PETER PAN
Materials:
Monaco Yarn Shade #21 - Rose (2-4 skeins)
Monaco Yarn Shade #255 - Tomato (6-8 skeins)
Monaco Yarn Shade #12 - Blonde (2 skeins)
Monaco Yarn Shade #13 - Honey (2-4 skeins)
Monaco Yarn Shade #60 - Sugar Cookie (8-10 skeins)
Monaco Yarn Shade #10 - Chiffon (2 skeins)
Monaco Yarn Shade #65 - Cinnamon (1-2 skeins)
Crochet Hook - K10.5 (6.5 mm)
*A K10.5 hook is fairly big so like what I did with Plue, I took two skeins of yarn and crocheted them as one,  doubling the amount of yarn I needed. So if you're gonna make this in a smaller size with a smaller hook, just cut the number of skeins in half.
Black beads #12
Red thread
Pink blush
Felt cloth:
          - Green
          - Light brown
Fiberfill stuffing

*Then attach them systematically on the scalp
*You don't need to fill in every hole, just enough to cover the head
*Here's a tutorial to make it easier: Amigurumi Hair Tutorial
*When the hair's all attached and done, pony tail it to the side. Keep in mind that you're gonna put a hat on him so make sure that it's not done too high.

Part 2: Making Tinkerbell

Okay, making her was a toughie. I had to completely redo her after making the first one. For one thing, the pattern I adapted it from was in Spanish, so any further instructions other than the number of rounds and rows were a bit difficult for me to understand. Then there was the issue with the eyes... For some reason, I couldn't decide whether to use beads, felt or yarn to embroider them on her face. Well, since I couldn't make up my mind I tried the trial and error approach and yah... That didn't go so well. -_-

So I ended up with Tinkerbell Prototype 1 and thank heavens, no 2, 3 or 4 came after it. Phew! o_O The Chibi pattern was written by Silvia Usón.

*Cut out eyes with lashes on black felt and glue to head
*With red thread, stitch her lips

HAIR
*Cut out strands of Bubblegum about 5 inches long
*Attach hair on head and make sure that it evenly frames the face
*Just look into the hair tutorial again if it gets difficult
*The anime version of Tinkerbell has short spiky hair so cut the yarns in length. Make it short but just long enough to style.
*With white glue, keep the spiky hairstyle in place
*Make sure to let it dry in a clean container or else dirt will still stick to it. Also, make sure to keep it in a place where the hair can't be touched otherwise it'd be ruined

SKIRT FRILLS (6x)

For the wings, I used the Margarita doll pattern by Mia Zamora Johnson.

Instead of making 4 wings with the same size, I opted to make two smaller sub wings.

*Sitch the main wing on top of the sub wing
*It should look like this:
*Attach the wings on the back
*Make sure there's a little space between them when stitched so that it wouldn't look like a clustered lump
Part 3: Happy Birthday! ^^

Amidst my mishap with Tinkerbell, I accomplished this project in less than a month and just in time for my brother's birthday. ^^
So when I surprised my brother with the two amigurumi dolls... His face just went completely... Blank. As in no reaction at all. o_O Speechless and in awe perhaps? Hmm? Hahaha! Well, whatever that meant, I had a good feeling he liked it... My niece certainly did though. ^^

Hobbes

Growing up in the 90's, I think one of the best privileges of that time was getting to read the Calvin & Hobbes comics every Saturday morning. It's like an essential part of a child's weekend ritual... Wake up late, eat a hearty breakfast, watch morning cartoons, then read the comics section of the newspaper. Aah... Things I miss about childhood. Wait a minute! I still do those things!!! ^^ Hahaha!

Like me, my brothers also loved the Calvin & Hobbes comics and so for my eldest brother's birthday request, he asked me to make him a Hobbes amigurumi. Of course I said piece of cake since I found a pattern for it months ago. But then he had to say "It should be in his tiger form, not stuffed toy" and ironically the pattern that I have was indeed for the plushie version of Hobbes. What are the odds? I was being tested again. Umm-hmm -_-

The pattern was a bit hard to come up with... Measurements to consider, stitches and stuff. Seriously! I've had to do so many trial and error runs that I've lost count how many times I had to unravel the yarn then crochet it again, then unravel and crochet it again. I went back and forth like a volleyball. It was really frustrating. Well, annoying as it was, it did really fill up my patience bucket. ^^

Hobbes took longer to make than I anticipated but I still finished him a week before my brother's birthday. Phew! I thought I was gonna end up giving him nothing. Well, being my brother I'm sure he wouldn't mind me asking an extension but that wouldn't really sit well with me. If there's one thing I hate, it would be not accomplishing something on time. Seriously, I take deadlines by heart. So I could not be happier when I finished Hobbes with 1 more week to spare. Damn! That was a close one. Anyway, my brother was really happy with his new tiger best friend and complimented me for making him so well. Oh shucks!!! -^.^-
