Speed of Sound Sonic

This past week I've received so much love for the Saitama (OnePunch-Man) amigurumi I made for my little brother that I got all fired up and finished Speed of Sound Sonic in less than 3 days. Actually, I would've finished much sooner if I didn't have to redo the sword and hair. So I was pretty much like speed of sound sonic myself. Hehehe ^^

But seriously, I can't express how much it means to me when my amigurumis get noticed and praised. They're like my own children... Tiny children made out of yarn and born from my brain with dashed sprinkles of love. Wait... What? That just got weird. O_O

Anyway, I'd just like to give a shout out to all those who shared Saitama (OnePunch-Man) to twitter, facebook, and other social media sites... I can't thank you enough for appreciating my humble work and spreading the word. I will not let you down and continue to do my best in making more OnePunch-Man amigurumis. ^^

Once again I used Katie Stevens' Onceler pattern.

For the hair, I had to use the technique found in Angela Juarez's doll pattern. It's a bit tricky but I guarantee that it's worth doing since it's the closest thing you could do to make his hair look like the one in Manga.

I had to do this twice so make sure you have more than enough black felt. ^^
When I finished Speed of Sound Sonic, other than my brother, Saitama was really thrilled.

Well, they may have the hero-villain set-up, but deep inside I know they're the best of friends. Aww! ^^

Tony Tony Chopper

My little brother and I, with our mom and dad went on a vacation in Palawan last July 2013. It was also the rare opportunity to visit my uncle (mom's brother) and his family who lived there in Puerto Princesa. We haven't seen them in a long time for like I don't know... Almost two decades? Not really sure but I know it's been reeeeeally long. O_O

The island was so beautiful and I enjoyed every minute of it... Visiting the crocodile farm, riding a boat to the underground river, shopping in the local souvenir shops, island hopping, taking tons of pictures and best of all, snorkeling and swimming with the fishes. It was really a once in a lifetime experience. I even saw a rainbow fish. Awesome!!! ^^

We really enjoyed our stay and thought 3 days were too short. Aww! Of course we plan to go back... But not until my piggy bank gets off his diet. Yikes! >.<

So in return for my uncle's hospitality, letting us live in their cozy hut home, I decided to make an amigurumi for my sweet cousin as a gift.

My original idea was to make her a family of bears... You know, Papa bear, Mama bear, and Baby bear. Wow, that almost made me break into a song. Hahaha! But my little brother noticed on her Facebook that she's been posting a lot about the anime "One Piece". And that's when it clicked. Why make a family of bears when I could make her the amigurumi that she really loved? Brilliant idea indeed!!! But which character? Pfft! Easy... The adorable little mascot of course... Tony Tony Chopper. Why? Well, I'm not a fan and I think he's cute so yah... Done! ^^

Girabbit

I had my fill of weird requests since I started making amigurumis, and I guess it's safe to say that by far... This was the weirdest. O_O

A combination of giraffe and rabbit in one amigurumi... High? Probably. ^^

So that was my sister-in-law's request for her birthday and of course I said "Yes, I'll do it!". In fairness to her, bizarre as it may be, that giraffe, rabbit... Girabbit idea has a rather sweet meaning. It's what she and my second eldest brother tease each other... Him a giraffe and she a rabbit. Need I say more? Hehehe! ^^

Anyway, I opted to make the Girabbit really cute and kawaii so I looked into lots of references and did some sketches. It took more than 3 weeks but I finally figured out how I wanted my sister-in-law's gift done.

The bow, blush and girly felt eyes were just last minute add-ons. Originally I wanted it plain but then I remembered my sister-in-law really loves sweet kawaii stuff. ^^

So that's about it, a Girabbit for my dear sister-in law. Of course she loved it and thought it was really cute. Yup! All in a day's work. ^^

Ooh fun fact! Did you know that J.R.R. Tolkien, author of the Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit, wrote a book called "Mr. Bliss."  What about it?

Found this description at the Tolkien Library:

"Mr. Bliss, a man notable for his immensely tall hats and for the girabbit in his garden, takes the whimsical decision to buy a motor car. But his first drive to visit friends quickly becomes a catalogue of disasters. Some of these could be blamed on Mr. Bliss’ style of driving, but even he could not anticipate being hi-jacked by three bears."

See that? Amazing isn't it? Really fascinating for someone who wrote about great wars in the middle earth of hobbits, elves, dwarves, and orcs, to actually imagine something eccentric as Mr. Bliss and his pet girabbit. J.R.R. Tolkien is truly, hands down awesome.

This Girabbit may be the weirdest amigurumi I ever made but it's certainly the cutest, most adorable and kawaiiest. Hehehe -^o^-

Saitama, the OnePunch-Man

There he goes again... My lil' bro's on an anime craze... Crazy about OnePunch-Man! ^^

So as a surprise for his birthday, I thought to make him a tiny action figure like amigurumi of his current fave bald-headed hero. Thankfully, I was in the right mind not to ask him what he wanted otherwise I had a feeling he'd be requesting it in life-size. Seriously?! By the time I get halfway to it's body I'd already have a stubble in place of my hand. Torture much! Ow! >.<

After getting all my materials... Yarn, felt, reference and stuff, I went on to making the tiny Saitama. How adorable! ^^ But of course, I had a little help from Katie Steven's Onceler pattern.

So my original plan was to surprise my little brother and... It didn't happen. -_- Well, he sneaked up on me while working on it so what can I do? Sigh! Buzz kill! He was thrilled anyway so I guess it wasn't all that bad. Actually, it turned out quite okay since he volunteered to draw and cut-out his eyes. He said he should do it since he's the "OnePunch-Man Expert". Right...  It meant less work for me so why complain? ^^

What's really amusing was even before I could put all the finishing touches on Saitama, my little brother was already nagging me to make him it's arch-nemesis, Speed of Sound Sonic. I mean wow! Amigurumis don't just pop out of a hat like a rabbit you know! Wait... What? O.O

Well, like I could say no to a brother's request... -_- One amigurumi of Speed of Sound Sonic, coming right up! ^^
