Tangled

So here we are again with another Disney Princess request from my sister-in-law. This time she asked me to make her a Rapunzel doll for her birthday. To be honest, we both know this is more of a gift for her baby girl than it is for her. Her birthday is just a formality for a deadline. Oh motherhood. Hahaha! ^^

Like Snow White, I'll be using the Disney Animator's Collection version for Rapunzel as reference. It's cuteness is killing me. Seriously! I can't find a doll more adorable than this .

With that, I decided to stick with Serah Basnet's Cookie doll pattern for the base.

I decided to put this last since it really takes time doing this one. It's a lot of work but fun to do. ^^

HAIR
(Bumblebee)
*Cut strands of Bumblebee that measures twice the body length of the doll
*Follow my often used hair tutorial to attach the strands on the hair cap
*I know Rapunzel usually has her hair loose, flowing crazy everywhere, but since this is meant for a 2-year old girl I decided to braid it. Yah, like Rapunzel had when she sang the "I see the light" song with Flynn. This is actually more for keeping my sister-in-law's sanity from an imminent mess the long locks might cause, than for the sake of making the doll prettier ^^

Instead of a plain braid, I borrowed June Gilbank's posy blossom pattern to put random flowers on the hair.

This is not mandatory, and totally up to you what you'd like to put on the hair. But If you prefer the same arrangement as mine, then follow my color combinations.

FLOWERS ON TOP OF THE HEAD
         - Two-colored spike blossom  (Raincoat and Grape) + Double leaf (Pickle)
         - Medium blossom (Flamingo)
         - Small Blossoms (Lemonade) 2x

FLOWERS ON THE BRAID
         - Medium blossom  (Raincoat and Snow) + Single leaf (Pickle) 3x
         - Small Blossoms (Lemonade/Grape/Bubblegum) 9x
With Rapunzel done, that just leaves me with her best friend, Pascal, the adorable little chameleon. For this pattern, I had to use Envy as my... Hmm... Reference? Of course they look completely different, but both do have lizard qualities so yah... Totally makes sense. ^^

Aww! Look at the dynamic cutie duo. ^^
I think I've done Rapunzel and Pascal perfectly, but of course there's always room for improvement. My niece's birthday is still half a year from now, but I'm already excited and anxious what my sister-in-law's next Disney princess challenge will be. ^^

  6. Hello. Can you please explain how am I supposed to align the lace holes on the dress? I did as the pattern stated and it it just look like a weird squiggly line. I try to pin it to the body to visualize it but it just looks odd.

    1. The two lace holes should be stitched parallel to each other with about 1 to 2 inches space in between. They must be perfectly aligned just below the neck or the white ruffles. Its just like eyelets in a shoe.

Maybe it seems odd because you haven't put in the lace yet. The lace looped through stretches the lace holes out so it looks more defined. You could pin it down temporarily and loop in the lace just to see if it makes a difference. ^^

  7. Can you explain how you did the eyes? They are beautiful! Thank you for the pattern! I can't wait to make her. 😊

    1. Oh thank you. ^^

Well, I sprayed lacquer on white felt cloth to smooth out the surface so I can draw on it properly. I made the eyes up based on my imagination, but you can use cartoons for reference. I think the Pinypon toy is the closest to what I came up with. I used permanent markers to outline my sketch and sprayed lacquer over again. Then I cut out the eyes and used fabric glue (magna-tac) to attach it on the head. ^^

  8. Coul you tell me What those it mean BLO un pascal pattern???

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. BLO stands for "Back Loop Only". When you do sc you notice that there's two loops right? One facing you and the other facing the inside of your amigurumi. So with BLO you'll work Rnd 2 of the legs on the loop that faces inside and away from you. Hope that helps. ^^

  9. Could you please tell me what is the meaning of trinc and string?
    Thanks

    1. trinc means you do 2 treble crochets in 1 stitch, like a normal "inc" but in treble.

String? Do you mean the pink lace that goes around Rapunzel's bodice?

    1. When I made Pascal I think it took me about 3 days to finish since I have to come up with the pattern while crocheting it and I wasn't 100% focused on the project, getting distracted here and there. But since you already have a pattern to follow and I'm sure you're less of a procrastinator than I am (^^), I bet you can finish Pascal before the day ends tops.

  11. Hello po, thanks for sharing the pattern for free:)), but I was just wondering... how can I make a bigger, huggable version of Pascal? My friend wanted a Pascal amigurumi but I couldn't find any pillow-sized pattern kind of thing.. Would it be possible to use two strands of yarn or something? Not sure since I'm just the average crocheter^_^

    1. Oh a Filipino. Kabayan!!! ^^ Hmm... Pascal is fairly small and will be a bit difficult to make bigger. What's the biggest hook you got? I have a 10mm Silvalume and that can handle 5 skeins of Monaco Acrylic Fingering Yarn. Maybe you could try that size of hook first, but if that doesn't work you'll really need to adjust Pascal's pattern.

      Delete
    2. Hmmm the biggest hook I have is only a 6.5 mm.. Maybe I'll just try to adjust the pattern. Thanks po again!:)) Really loved your patterns:)

      Delete
    3. 6.5 mm is already pretty big, but not enough to make Pascal into huggable size. Yes, it's better to just adjust the pattern.

I look forward to your big version of Pascal and try it out myself. I'm sure it'll be adorable. Good luck! ^^
