Tyson Cake

Once in a while, when I lack artistic inspiration and yarn inventory wouldn't cut it,  I'd browse over DeviantArt to kick-start my creativity and imagination. Well, what better way to be inspired than to check out other artists' work? It's really effective and has never failed me yet. ^^ In a manner of speaking, it's like the oracle for artists seeking guidance for a new art project. Oh hail great oracle of... Of... Pencils and crayons? Pfft- Hahaha! ^o^ That's priceless! But seriously, it's really the most awesome site you can go to whenever you have writer's block or creative static syndrome (The buzz buzz inside the head when empty of creative ideas). Ooh... O.O

Anyway, I've been having one of those buzz buzz days when I came across this cutie-patootie plushie design by chasethebunny. She called it the Rainbow Birthday Cake Unicorn Monster! To be honest, that's the most appropriate name I could think of. Nothing's better than a combination of monster, unicorn, and cake... Am I right? Mmm... Cake. -^.^-

So that was it, creative static syndrome went "Poof!" and an idea was born... I decided to make an amigurumi version of the plushie and name it Tyson Cake. Woo-hoo! Of course, I asked the artist first if that was okay and the good news is she said yes. But the bad news is... Yah, I can't post the pattern. Sorry guys. T.T Apparently, she's selling the plushie and if I put out the pattern then it would ruin its chances of being sold. Well, if you really like this plushie you can go to her websites to ask about it. She has a nice collection of unicorn cake monsters to choose from.

 

Yah, I'm still fan-girling the Percy Jackson and Heroes of Olympus series so I named it after the main character's brother, Tyson. Actually he's a cyclopes but not like the vicious ones you read from Sinbad stories and Greek myths. He's really adorable, cuddly, and one of the most awesome slash lovable characters in the franchise. So yah, the name really fits. More love for Tyson! Hehehe!

Pusheenicorn

Recently I've been invited to join a group of crocheters in DeviantArt called Amigurumi-Challenge and of course, I was more than happy to oblige. Honestly, I didn't think that my amigurumis would gain this much recognition so I was really quite surprised.

Like the name of the group suggests, Amigurumi-Challenge holds amigurumi-making contests every month for their members. So this January, they held the Strawberry Moshi Contest where the bunny pattern from Amigurumi To Go was used as base. The rule was to make something different out of the pattern without completely changing it.

So after psyching myself with one of Barney Stinson's words of wisdom: "CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!!!", I went on to figuring out what I wanted to do with the bunny pattern.

Initially, I wanted to make 3 little pigs like the ones in Disney but immediately dismissed the idea after realizing that would be flat out boring. I mean, piggies are cute but I don't think it would cut it especially after someone submitted chibi My Little Ponies. Seriously! What could be better than the Mane 6? That idea was right on the money and I wouldn't be surprised if it won. Who could beat its cuteness?

I was already rethinking of joining when suddenly... Light bulb!!! 

The popular cartoon gif "Pusheen the Cat", came into mind. But it gets better... After checking out its website: Pusheen the Cat, I saw one of the most majestic things to ever exist on earth. It's not a cat, not a unicorn... It's a PUSHEENICORN!

Is there anything more beautiful? Sob! Oh damn! Now it's making me cry. T3T

So that was it... That's how I got my entry . ^^

MANE/TAIL
*Use Deep Sky, Honey, and Ballet Slipper for the mane and attach to the back
*Trim uneven or out of place strands
*For the tail, cut 4 strands each of Periwinkle, Mint, and Ballet Slipper that measures about 4-5 inches 
*Put the strands together and secure in the middle, then stitch at Pusheenicorn's bottom

Win or lose, I'm just happy that I joined... Okay, maybe for a teeny-tiny bit I wish that I'd win. What? I'm just human. ^^ Ooh! Can't wait for the results. O_O

===> So the contest ended Jan. 31 and the winners were announced I think Feb. 1 or 2...  Anyway, I didn't win. Aww! X_X It sucks but hey, I did have fun and I'm glad that I did the contest otherwise I wouldn't have Pusheenicorn. And with that... I feel like I've won. Aww! It's the little things. Hehehe -^.^-

Strawberry Cream Puff

One of the things I'm really proud of, as in I could high-five myself for its awesomeness, is that I am in fact a full-fledged... Brony. ^^ What? I don't see anything wrong with liking a children's show about ponies, unicorns and pegasi or pegasuses or whatever. Lauren Faust's reboot of the classic cartoon My Little Ponies (MLP) is like the most epic thing ever... "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic". Pure coolness. ^^

Of course I wouldn't be a real Brony if I didn't make an amigurumi of the Mane 6: Twilight Sparkle, Rarity, Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, and Apple Jack. Thanks to Charmaine Eng, bless her beautiful soul, I found the perfect pony pattern on her blog... Well, actually unicorn.

REUBEN THE PINK FLUFFY UNICORN

So I decided to use Reuben, the pink fluffy unicorn as my base for creating the Mane 6. Of course, before I went on with making the MLPs, I first made a prototype. Well, you wouldn't buy a car if you hadn't taken it for a test drive wouldn't you? ^^ Same thing. Hehehe 

And thus, Strawberry Cream Puff the unicorn was born...

Monaco Yarn Shade #232 - Lemonade  (5-6 skeins)
Monaco Yarn Shade #60  - Sugar Cookie (1 skein)

Monaco Yarn Shade #61  - Sand (3-4 skeins)
Monaco Yarn Shade #1  - Snow (1 skein)
Crochet Hook - F5 (3.75 mm)

Black beads #16
Fiberfill stuffing

Take note that I adjusted a few rounds so the unicorn is a bit smaller than the one on the pattern.

If you're wondering how her mane came out in cute tiny curls, just untangle the yarn one by one. Well, it's a little tedious but I think you'd agree that it's worth the effort, seeing how lovely the mane turned out. Hehehe!

First my MLP prototype, next the world! I mean Mane 6. Hahaha! So excited!!!
