Sooty the Soot Sprite

Been very busy this holiday and what a relief that Christmas came and went without a hitch. Sigh! That's one down and a New Year to go. Hehehe!

So with the New Year celebration coming up and preparations going insane, I thought to have a little pause from the chaos and make a stress-relieving Amigurumi. Well, this time I didn't use any hook. With just a good pom-pom maker (Sorry, it's in Japanese so I don't know what brand), two skeins of Raven, and some felt cloth I was able to make myself an A-dorable, cutie-patootie giant soot sprite named Sooty. You know, like the ones in the Studio Ghibli films... Specifically in My Neighbor Totoro and Spirited Away. ^^
I don't know what brand is the pom-pom maker, but it looks like this...
It comes in a set of four different sizes: 3.5cm, 5.5cm, 7cm, and 9cm. The one I used for the soot sprite is the largest one. I bought it for Php235 in a yarn and crafts store, so it's about $5-6. Not bad huh? ^^

So here we are again with another Disney Princess request from my sister-in-law. This time she asked me to make her a Rapunzel doll for her birthday. To be honest, we both know this is more of a gift for her baby girl than it is for her. Her birthday is just a formality for a deadline. Oh motherhood. Hahaha! ^^

Like Snow White, I'll be using the Disney Animator's Collection version for Rapunzel as reference. It's cuteness is killing me. Seriously! I can't find a doll more adorable than this .

With that, I decided to stick with Serah Basnet's Cookie doll pattern for the base.

I decided to put this last since it really takes time doing this one. It's a lot of work but fun to do. ^^

HAIR
(Bumblebee)
*Cut strands of Bumblebee that measures twice the body length of the doll
*Follow my often used hair tutorial to attach the strands on the hair cap
*I know Rapunzel usually has her hair loose, flowing crazy everywhere, but since this is meant for a 2-year old girl I decided to braid it. Yah, like Rapunzel had when she sang the "I see the light" song with Flynn. This is actually more for keeping my sister-in-law's sanity from an imminent mess the long locks might cause, than for the sake of making the doll prettier ^^

Instead of a plain braid, I borrowed June Gilbank's posy blossom pattern to put random flowers on the hair.

This is not mandatory, and totally up to you what you'd like to put on the hair. But If you prefer the same arrangement as mine, then follow my color combinations.

FLOWERS ON TOP OF THE HEAD
         - Two-colored spike blossom  (Raincoat and Grape) + Double leaf (Pickle)
         - Medium blossom (Flamingo)
         - Small Blossoms (Lemonade) 2x

FLOWERS ON THE BRAID
         - Medium blossom  (Raincoat and Snow) + Single leaf (Pickle) 3x
         - Small Blossoms (Lemonade/Grape/Bubblegum) 9x
With Rapunzel done, that just leaves me with her best friend, Pascal, the adorable little chameleon. For this pattern, I had to use Envy as my... Hmm... Reference? Of course they look completely different, but both do have lizard qualities so yah... Totally makes sense. ^^

Aww! Look at the dynamic cutie duo. ^^
I think I've done Rapunzel and Pascal perfectly, but of course there's always room for improvement. My niece's birthday is still half a year from now, but I'm already excited and anxious what my sister-in-law's next Disney princess challenge will be. ^^
